Animal rights activists may try to sway you away from attending a bullfight with their posters and loud protests, but don’t be so quick to dismiss this event. Or even pity the bull. In Portugal, the bull not only lives, but has the chance to get even. And often succeeds! The forcados, who enter the ring to take […]

  • Nuno Sousa - Hi there! Thank you for showing and liking our culture. I really hope you have enjoyed the bullfight and our country in general. By the looks of the crowd, you attend a small bullfight (not a demerit of course). But if you really want to feel the “febre tauromáquica” (bullfight culture) I invite you and your family to come again and watch a show in Campo Pequeno (biggest arena in Portugal) and see a “Corrida de Gala à Antiga Portuguesa”, wich means old tradicional portuguese bullfight. It´s a spetacular show, that hasn´t changed since XVII century.
If you want you can contact me to my e-mail and I will tell you all the details and will be a pleasure to go watch a bullfight with you and explain what´s happening.

    Cheers,

    Nuno Sousa.

  • admin - Thanks for writing, Nuno. We attended a traditional bullfight during the annual bullfighting festival in Portugal and did have a local with us who explained what was happening. It was very fascinating to watch to forcados and witness their bravery confronting the bulls. Definitely was one of the highlights of our 2 week trip to Portugal! Thank you for the personal invite to return to Portugal and attend a bullfight with us…you never know!

This iconic structure may appear familiar even if you’ve never visited in person. Chances are, some of your favorite movies have been shot at this UNESCO site, including one that hit theaters last summer. Set in an arid desert miles away from crowded cities, this kasbah is still partially inhabited. Just where in the world […]

  • Ken Lee - This is the Sky Fort, Ait Benhadou (sp?) in the Saharan desert of Morocco. And it’s still inhabited!!!!

    Thanks!

    Ken

  • Ken Lee - Weird, this doesn’t seem to be working. Anyway, this is the Ait Benhadou sky fort in the Saharan Desert in Morocco. And it’s still inhabited!

  • admin - That’s exactly right! Ait Benhaddou is one of the most popular kasbahs to visit in Morocco.

Last weekend we came home from Florida to freezing cold temps and a light dusting of snow! Gracious, what happened to spring??  Made me think of the icebergs in Iceland!  This photo was taken on a black lava  beach near Jokulsarlon Glacial Lagoon, in southeastern Iceland on our photo tour last August. At dawn several of us walked along […]

  • Villa Holidays - Thanks for sharing such a wonderful view with all of us.. I really enjoyed reading your post.. I must say the place is awesome.. I appreciate the photography..

Ah, the beach… is there any place more popular for families during Spring Break or summer vacation?  Warm sunshine, soft sand, bright skies…kids swimming in the ocean, jumping waves, building sand castles, collecting shells… Some great photo opps, no doubt, but capturing them can be surprisingly challenging. I don’t know how many times I’ve heard parents say, […]

  • Roger & Ja Neal Smith - We loved seeing the pictures on the beach. Very good pictures. It looks like something we would like to do sometime.

There are over 250 waterfalls and countless scenic river overviews in the vast 2.22 million acre Yellowstone National Park. So if you’re naturally drawn to waterscapes, there are plenty to photograph!   I’ll admit that I’m not one that usually seeks out either…especially in Yellowstone, where I’d rather be photographing frosty bison, stark lodge pine trees or vivid mineral springs that […]

  • Ken Lee - I think I prefer the silky waterfall photo best, but of course, it depends on what you are trying to capture.

I stumbled across this blog from your Unique Photo Tours website, as I am contemplating a photo tour to Iceland, by the way. It’d be my dream tour, a once-in-a-lifetime splurge, assuming I can drum up enough cash.

    Cool blog.

  • admin - Thanks, Ken. Iceland is a dream tour, and we hope you can join us! By the way, you may want to check out an earlier blog entry on Shooting Geothermals by Moonlight We will be shooting here again on our August tour during the full moon.
